Weekend or intensive yoga teacher training in Copenhagen?

Choose the weekend format if you want to fit the training around a job or studies and need time to let things sink in. Choose the intensive format if you can take a summer off and would rather go all in over a short time. The content and the certificate are the same. It’s the rhythm that’s different. At yum in Sydhavnen, Copenhagen, the winter group runs over weekends from January to May, and the Summer Intensive runs over 6.5 weeks in July and August.

That’s the short answer. The longer one is about you: your calendar, your energy and how you learn best.

In short

  • Weekend: a longer course, less per week, more time to practise and let it settle.
  • Intensive: a short course, lots of days close together, deep immersion.
  • Same content, same price and same certificate at yum.
  • Weekend takes staying power over months. Intensive takes a cleared calendar.
  • Both formats include homework and self-practice.

What’s the difference between a weekend and an intensive yoga teacher training?

Both give you the same 200 hours. The difference is how the hours are spread out.

The weekend format spreads teaching across several months. You train at weekends and live your normal life on weekdays. At yum, training days are planned so you have both the first and the last part of the day off.

The intensive format packs the teaching into a few weeks, on both weekends and weekdays. You’re close to the training all the time. It’s a bit like moving into yoga for a summer, without moving anywhere.

What does a week look like in each format?

Winter/spring at yum (16 January–2 May 2027): Weekends only, with a break over the winter and Easter holidays. Between weekends you have homework and your own practice. So your weekdays are free for work, studies, family and everything else.

Summer Intensive at yum (3 July–15 August 2027): 6.5 weeks of weekends and weekdays. The 2027 timetable isn’t out yet, but it will be very similar to 2026. In 2026 there were typically three or four teaching days a week in the first weeks. Weekdays ran roughly from 9 or 10 am to 4 pm, and weekend days were mostly afternoons and evenings. The last day was exam day. See the example timetable on the Summer Intensive page.

In other words: intensive doesn’t mean morning to night every single day. But it does mean your summer is booked.

Who is the weekend format for?

The weekend format usually works well if:

  • you have a full-time job or studies you can’t take time off from
  • you learn best when you can try things out between sessions
  • you’d like time to practise teaching friends, colleagues or family along the way
  • you like a steady rhythm over a longer period

It does take staying power. There will be months when the rest of life is busy too. Birthdays, deadlines, a cold in February. At yum you can miss 16 hours at most, so it’s worth going through your calendar before you book. We go deeper into this in yoga teacher training while working full time.

Who is the intensive format for?

The intensive format usually works well if:

  • you can take a summer off, or you’re between jobs or studies
  • you learn best when you’re fully immersed in something
  • you’d rather be done in a few weeks than keep going for months
  • you like having a group you see almost every day

The downside is the pace. There’s less time to let things sink in between days, and your body does a lot of work in a short time. Many people find it both tough and wonderful. Both are true.

What about work, kids and holidays?

This is where most decisions get made. A few questions that help:

  • Work: Can you take 6.5 weeks of holiday or leave in summer? If not, weekends are probably the realistic choice.
  • Kids: Can you get childcare at weekends from January to May? Or is summer easier, with holidays and more adults around to help?
  • Holidays: The winter group pauses for the winter and Easter holidays. The summer group sits right in peak holiday season.
  • Energy: Are you usually tired at weekends after a long week? Then think about how you’ll feel on a Sunday in March.

Is one format harder than the other?

Not on paper. The requirements, the exam and the certificate are the same. But they feel different.

The weekend format is a marathon. The hard part is sticking with it when everyday life pulls at you. The intensive format is a sprint. The hard part is keeping your energy up when the days are close together. Which is harder depends on you.

A tip: think back to other things you’ve learned. Did you get the most out of a long course with breaks, or an intense one? That’s often a good clue.

When do I need to decide?

The winter group starts on 16 January 2027. Read the cancellation terms on the winter page before you book. They’re in writing, and they’re the ones that apply.

So if you already know that spring weekends won’t work, it’s perfectly fine to wait for summer.
