Yoga teacher training while working full time: how it works
Upcoming yoga teacher trainings in Copenhagen
By yum · Updated 3 November 2026
Yes, you can do a yoga teacher training with a full-time job. The easiest way is a weekend format, where teaching happens on Saturdays and Sundays and your weekdays stay free for work. Plan for homework and your own practice between weekends, and protect your weekends for a few months. At yum in Sydhavnen, Copenhagen, our winter group runs at weekends only from 16 January to 2 May 2027, in English.
That’s the short answer. Here’s how to make it work in a real week, with a real job.
In short
- A weekend format is built for people with jobs.
- Your weekdays stay free, but not empty: plan time for homework and self-practice.
- At yum, training days are planned so you have the first and last part of the day off.
- You can miss 16 hours at most, so check your calendar before you book.
- If weekends don’t work, an intensive summer format is the alternative.
Can you really do a yoga teacher training with a full-time job?
Yes. Lots of people do. It’s the reason weekend formats exist.
But let’s be honest. It’s a real commitment. For a few months, your weekends belong to the training, and some of your weekday evenings belong to homework and practice. It works best when you decide that from the start, instead of hoping it’ll somehow fit.
The good news? Most people find that the training gives energy back. You spend your weekends doing something that’s entirely yours. That tends to make Mondays feel different.
How does a weekend yoga teacher training work?
At yum, the winter group runs from 16 January to 2 May 2027. Teaching happens at weekends only, with a break over the winter and Easter holidays.
The training days are planned so you have both the first and the last part of the day off. So you can sleep a little, have breakfast, and still have your evening for friends, family or the sofa.
The training is 200 hours in total: 150 hours with the teachers and 50 hours of self-practice. yum is a Registered Yoga School (RYS®200) with Yoga Alliance.
How much time do I need between weekends?
Plan for two things.
Homework. You’ll be expected to prepare homework between weekends. Reading in the manual, assignments, getting ready for the next session.
Self-practice. 50 of the 200 hours are your own practice. Spread over the months of the winter group, that’s roughly a few hours a week. It’s not a separate exam. It’s you, on your mat, building the habit.
A tip: put it in your calendar like a meeting. Two weekday slots and one short one at the weekend works for many people. Some practise before work. Others prefer the evening. Either is fine. Pick the one you’ll actually keep.
At yum, you get free access to our regular yoga classes from the day you book until the training ends. So part of your practice can be a class on the way home from work.
What if I’m busy at work or get ill?
It happens. Deadlines, a work trip, a cold in February.
At yum you can miss 16 hours at most. That’s not a lot over a whole training, so the best thing you can do is plan ahead:
- Go through your calendar before you book. Weddings, trips, big work weeks.
- Tell your manager early that your weekends are booked for a few months.
- If illness or something else affects your attendance, contact us as early as possible. Make-up work or other arrangements are agreed individually and can’t be guaranteed.
Should I tell my employer?
You don’t have to. The training happens at weekends. But many people find it helps.
If your manager knows, it’s easier to avoid Saturday events and big Friday-night launches. And some employers find it interesting. A colleague who’s learning to guide breathing, movement and calm can be quite useful in a busy office.
What if weekends don’t work for me?
Then look at an intensive format. At yum, the Summer Intensive runs from 3 July to 15 August 2027. It’s 6.5 weeks with both weekends and weekdays, so it works best if you can take holiday or leave over the summer. Same content, same price, same certificate.

And if 2027 doesn’t work at all, our upcoming courses also list a winter/spring group from January to May 2028.
Is the training in English?
Yes. All teaching and the manual are in English. That’s useful if you work in an international company in Copenhagen, and it means you don’t need to speak Danish. Some teachers and the studio team also speak Danish. Not sure your English is strong enough? Read doing a yoga teacher training in English when it’s not your first language.
