For the coming season, we’ve opened up for new spots in our café staff team.

We’re looking for an experienced Floor Manager for between 12-20 hours a week, including work every other weekend. You will mainly work in the café, but your responsibility extends to the full floor, i.e. also our yoga room.

You must be able to work during the months March - September with full availability during yum's peak season May - August.

About you

• you have previous experience from the hospitality industry and find it natural to take responsibility and ownership in the things you do
• you have a great overview
• you are curious and enthusiastic about making yum a friendly and warm place to be for both guests and employees
• you work structured and keep an eye on your work space and flow at all times
• you take initiative, are observant and think outside of the box to find solutions
• some of the tasks will include: motivating and training staff in collaboration with the Café Manager, improving efficiency of workflows and structures, keeping system of the storage, café and kitchen, waiting tables, making cold and hot drinks, preparing food, opening and closing the café, ordering ingredients from our suppliers, making sure the café and yoga room is clean and tidy throughout the day.

About you

You have experience working at a café, restaurant and/or a bar. You always stay positive and know how to keep a cool head when there is a lot to do. Preferably you have a barista course and knows how to make both milk smoother than silk, and perfect latte art!

Café guests, yogis and staff should feel that yum is a place to re-energize and socialize; they should feel welcome here and always be met by a friendly face when entering the cafe that shows an interest in engaging and making the experience happy, vibrant and delicious.

yum needs you if you can bring your best energy and want to add value to our community and business. You are happy to work during busy hours, are well-structured, efficient and professional. Good prioritization skills and initiative are your forté.

You also love to learn and expand your skill set. You are curious and enthusiastic about new challenges that may come your way!

About the role

Young workers at yum yoga & café undertake a floater role in café and kitchen, and play a vital and dynamic role, ensuring the smooth functioning of the establishment, in collaboration with the other floor staff. With a diverse range of responsibilities, the position requires adaptability, multitasking abilities, and a good work ethic. 

As a floater, the young worker is responsible for providing support to various areas of the café as needed. This includes assisting the baristas, preparing beverages, serving customers, and ensuring timely delivery of orders to customers. The young worker also assists in the kitchen with the main position being by the dishwasher and making sure there is an ongoing flow of clean tools, cuttlery, coffee cups etc.

With the versatile nature of the role, it is important that everyone in the team has a clear understanding of the priorities of the young worker, as well as clear communication from the main responsible on any given shift. It is the responsibility of the Café Manager/Floor Manager to help the young worker navigate and make sure that they have the foundation to fulfill their responsibilities.

TASKS & PRIOS
With the help from the manager or responsible on any given shift, young workers at yum must prioritize tasks, manage their workload effectively, and ensure that orders are served promptly. Being able to maintain attention to detail is essential. This is the main rule of thumb for the role: 

→ 1st prio: Service to guests (take orders to table)
→ 2nd prio: Washing dishes
→ 3rd prio: Cleaning tables 

It is important for the young worker to develop an ability to oversee the main stations (finished orders to deliver, dishwater, tables) on an ongoing basis, and work in a good flow. Always bring dirty plates, cups, glasses etc. in from tables on your way back from serving an order. This way, the young worker will spend less time walking in and out, and furthermore, tables will be cleaned faster for a greater customer experience. 

Delivering orders in a timely manner should be considered a team effort, and the responsible on any given day should have the overall responsibility of this, and help young workers navigate when to leave their other stations, if the flow is for some reasons not obtained. 

Customer Service

The young worker must possess good interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor to ensure that every customer receives a positive experience. Greeting customers with a smile is a key aspect of this role. Additionally, the young worker must address customer inquiries or concerns promptly and professionally, and if there is any doubt regarding how to respond to a customer request, the main responsible on any given shift should step in to help the young customer, and let the young worker get back to his/her main responsibilities. The young worker should not be left alone in critical situations where customers might be unhappy with the café’s operations, products or services. In these cases, the young worker should go to the manager on the shift, explain the situation and let the manager take over. 

The young worker should possess a good work ethic and positive attitude. This means being punctual, reliable, and demonstrating a willingness to learn and grow in their role. Fast pace and direct orders must be expected, and the ability to remain calm under potentially hectic days is highly valued.

Cleanliness & Hygiene

The young worker  is expected to clean and sanitize tables, chairs, and other surfaces regularly. They are also responsible for washing dishes, utensils, and equipment.

Communications & Time Management

The young worker must be a team player and possess effective communication skills. They need to collaborate with the café's staff, including baristas, kitchen staff, and managers, to ensure efficient operations. Clear and concise communication is essential for seamless coordination and the ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities.

In summary, a young worker in  at yum, undertaking a floater role, assumes a versatile and important position. Their responsibilities encompass customer service, beverage preparation, cleanliness, teamwork, and effective communication. With adaptability, good organizational skills, and a customer-centric mindset, the floater contributes to the overall success and reputation of the café while gaining valuable experience in the hospitality industry.

You are an experienced yoga teacher with a YTT certification (minimum 150H) and a passion for all-things-yoga. You are curious and proactive, and you also see yourself as a student of yoga, always trying to broaden and grow your practice, perspective and approach to sharing the love of yoga.

You love the feeling of community and thrive in the teacher-student dynamic. You make your students feel welcome, heard and seen in your classes, making the shala a safe space for yogis to flourish into their practice. You greet every student coming into your class with a smile on your face, you take pride in providing a personalised experience in your yoga classes and you are not afraid to walk around the room offering hands-on help with alignment.

Yum needs you if you’re the kind of teacher who is passionate about the world of yoga, while also being open to other points of view. We take everything with a smile, a little blink in the eye, to achieve a balance in striving to live our lives with respect to the planet, animals, other people and our own minds and bodies, without falling into the extreme. The position includes the following:

??‍♀️ Planning, preparing and executing yoga sequences, depending on the class type;

??‍♀️ Teaching classes according to the schedule;

??‍♀️ Learning and teaching yum’s set yoga se(a)quence;

??‍♀️ Recording students’ attendance in our booking system;

??‍♀️ Substituting other teachers’ classes where possible;

??‍♀️ Opening/closing the studio depending on the time of your class;

??‍♀️ Becoming a yum ambassador and being able to help our members with basic queries (e.g., familiarising yourself with our studio ethos and membership structure)
